Don’t poke the pygmies

I took a trip out to the Good Cents store today and on the days I go there is a core group of characters that are always there.  In my mind it is kind of like Storage Wars.  There is the professional, a big guy that is there 40 minutes early to be first in line.  The Shoe collector, usually second in line but will buy buggies full of shoes.  He must wear them out really fast.  Then there is the sweetheart, a little Asian woman who all the employees know her name.  The retiree, she goes in gloves a blazing and picks up some of the strangest things.

Now that you know the cast of characters let move onto the story shall we.

Littlest pygmy and I are waiting in line at the “line store” as she likes to call it.  The usual group is there.  We all file in and immediately I here the professional say, “Ack, same stuff as yesterday”.  So I know I probably won’t find much but we mosey on over to the books anyway.  Well while I am looking at books when little pygmy in the basket sees a car she wants to hold and play with.  I don’t even really look up from the books and hand it to her.  I find some Little Critter books and a Berenstain Bear to add to my lot when I feel someones eyes on us.

I look over and the “professional” is trying to be smooth and saddle up next to us.  Now we have made casual conversation with him before but we are not fooled, he means business.  So he is talking to little pygmy and she is not being rude but she can sense he is up to something.

So he says what a nice car you have can I see it?  She cautiously obliges.   You can tell right away he is hot for this thing and can’t believe he missed it.  So he is trying to feel us out and see if it is something we would give up.  Pygmy knows this right away and asks for her car back.

Hands off dude.

So he asks if I think she will trade and I told him to ask her.  She flat out denied him and you can tell he is getting antsy so we stroll off to another section.  He tries to be casual but I can tell he is still following us with his eyes.

So throughout our shopping trip he is trying to “trade” with her (my 3 yr old mind you)  and he even gets so desperate that he offers her money for the car.  This is where I fall even more in love with my little pygmy because she tells him in her most loud and authorative voice “no, now you go away!”  Yes, I nearly died right there from pride.  Even the rest of the patrons laughed because they have been watching this the whole time too.  So finally he got the hint and scooted off (but not too far in case I last minute changed my mind).  We go to check out and he even slides in line behind us trying to woo little pygmy with bubble.

Pygmy obliges but keeps a keen eye on her car all the way through ring up and bagging.  Even checked after it was in the basket.  Luckily for professional dude he did not follow us into the parking lot because then he would no longer be dealing with a pygmy but her angry handler.

I am happy with how well little pygmy handled the situation.  She was never rude but firm and assertive which is what I try to teach all my children.  I am sure you are all wondering what car could cause such a fuss.  Well here it is….

A remote control Mach 5 Speed Racer car.  WITHOUT the remote!  I even checked it out on Ebay and all other sales but the complete new sets were going for $50 at most so I really have no clue why this guy was so hot and heavy for this car.  This is however the same guy who stopped pestering me long enough to jump on a HALO game so maybe that says something.

All in all I did okay today.  It was half price at Goodwill for clothes too so grabbed some dresses and a Pokemon bed set and went home to recover.

Update:  So I was trying and trying to figure out who the professional reminded me of.  Hubby figured it out just by my description.
