So yesterday I ventured out to the Good Cents store here in Tally. Good Cents is like a Goodwill outlet or basically the end of the line. Ours is actually connected to a Goodwill.
This is good for me because they price everything so high here a lot of great stuff makes it to this store. So off I went with $20 in my hand, 3 pygmies in tow, and only 1 prayer of finding anything great. We get there at 10 am when they open and there is a rather long line waiting at the door.
We hop back at the end and I can tell they are already thinking “ha! novice”. The doors open and we all file in but there is this nervous hasty kind of energy.
So I go in and without people it looks kinda like this.
Just bins upon bins of semi sorted items. Now to give you an idea of what it looks like with the people in there it was more like this.
Don’t let those sweet faces fool you, they will shank ya if you are looking at their item. Ok maybe not but there was quite the competitive edge in there. Some obvious resellers, some down on their luck, and some doe eyed newbies such as myself. So here are some tips I found (and wish I had read before going) about shopping here.
- Bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands from an unknowns that you may come across in the bins
- Go when you have several hours to dig
- Leave kids at home, if at all possible. Goodwill Outlet locations are usually very busy; and the customers can sometimes get aggressive
- Keep your finds close to you. People will shop out of your cart, if given the chance
- Shop often. New merchandise is put out throughout the day
Yeah, no gloves and 3 pygmies did not make for an easy trip. Like I said though I had $20 in my pocket and I was determined to try the full experience. So here is how far $20 took me.
To recap that is a Buzz Lightyear deluxe wing set $.50, Butterfly costume $1.00, Mountain climbing backpack $2.00, Mini mouse toy $.50, vintage file/lockbox $1, boys boots $2, Tony Hawk jeans, Kids winter jacket, top for me, 2 pygmy tops, at $1.76 a pound so around $6, cars track piece $.50, strawberry short cake doll $.50, Fraggle rock doll $.50, Dora Vtech telephone $1, Cap and calculator $.50 each, and a Eddie Bower bear $.50. Total with tax was just under $20!
I looked up the resale for the buzz lightyear wing and I should be able to recoup my cost with those things alone. They are pretty cool. Check it out. *warning terrible You Tube video. I think he was talking loud enough for the deaf people to hear him.
So will I go back. Definitely! Will I take 3 pygmies with me and forget my gloves, no way.

Oh how I wish i had a place like that near me. I’d be with my three tikes to though.
